For families

Join the booster club

Every parent, guardian, grandparent, and fan is welcome. Membership is what pays for the gear, the tournament fees, and the bus to the Valley. Members hear about tryouts, game nights, and the camp first.

Where it goes

Four things the district does not buy

  • Team gearWarmups, shooting shirts, bags. Every player, every level.
  • Tournament feesThe South Invitational and the Wolverine Classic do not run on air.
  • BasketballsA program goes through them faster than anyone outside it would guess.
  • TravelAnything past the Anchorage bowl. The Valley, the Peninsula, and back.

Nothing on that list is optional, and none of it is covered.

The program

Two teams, one program

Varsity gets the headlines. Junior Varsity is where the next few years of varsity is built. The booster club funds both the same way.

Varsity

The top of the program. Conference play through the winter, the Wolverine Classic and the South Invitational at home, and the road games that the booster club pays to get them to.

What is coming

The season, as it fills in

Dates go up here as they are set. If something is missing or moved, tell us and it changes the same day.

    For families

    Count me in

Leave your name and we will keep you posted on tryouts, game nights, the camp, and anything the club is running. No obligation, no volunteering required, and we will not pass your details to anybody.

    Already decided

The player pack is what each player pays once a season, and it covers their gear and the events they take part in. Include your player's name in the notes at checkout.

    Straight answers

    The questions people actually ask

Do I have to volunteer for anything?

No. Plenty of members never work a single event. If you want to help, there is always something, and it is usually one shift, not a season.

Is my kid's spot affected if we do not join?

No. Membership has nothing to do with playing time, tryouts, or roster spots, and it never will. No player is ever required to pay anything to participate.

    Is this tax deductible?

SABBBC is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the Tax ID is 20-1893263, so contributions are generally deductible. Check with your tax advisor for your own situation.

I own a small business. Is a gym banner actually worth it?

Parents are far more likely to buy from a business backing their own kid's program than one backing a pro team. A banner sits in front of that audience all winter, every home game, for less than most single ads cost.

    Where does the money go?

Gear, tournament fees, basketballs, and travel outside the Anchorage bowl. It stays with the program.

Can I give without joining or sponsoring?

Yes. A check works, at any amount. Make it payable to South Anchorage High School Boys Basketball Booster Club and mail it to 13801 Arboretum Street, Anchorage, Alaska 99516. A receipt gets mailed back to you.

Two teams play tonight. Only one of them has you.
